Antifonul Întâi cuprinde începtul Psalmului 102 și este o cântare de slăvire a lui Dumnezeu.	¹ The word «antiphon» comes from Greek, meaning «step». The First Antiphon encompasses the beginning of Psalm 102, and it is a song of praise to God.

¹ Antifonul al doilea a fost scris de către împăratul Justinian cel Mare (527–565) și cuprinde învățătura Bisericii despre raportul dintre persoana lui Hristos—Cuvântul lui Dumnezeu—și lucrarea Sa de mântuire a omului.	¹ The Second Antiphon was written by the Emperor Justinian the Great (527–565) and it encompasses the teachings of the Church about the relationship between Christ's persona—as the Word of God—and His work of saving mankind.

ANTIFONUL AL TREILEA¹	THE THIRD ANTIPHON¹
¹ La Antifonul al III-lea se cântă fie Fericirile, fie condacul Apărătoare Doamnă, fie ambele cântări (slujbă arhierească).	¹ Either the Beatitudes or the Kontakion Champion Leader are sung as the third Antiphon, or sometimes (as for instance is the case of the Liturgy held in the presence of Bishops and Archbishops) they are both sung together.
FERICIRILE¹	THE BEATITUDES¹
¹ Fericirile, în număr de nouă, au fost rostite de Măntuitorul Hristos în Predica de pe Munte (Matei 5, 3–11). Ele sunt cele nouă căi sau virtuiți spre moștenirea fericirii veșnice. Este vorba despre smerenie (1), plânsul pentru păcate (2), blândețe (3), simțul dreptății și împlinirea virtuților (4 și 8), milostenie (5), curăția inimii (6), promovarea păcii (7) și pătimirea defăimărilor, persecuțiilor și chiar a morții pentru mărturisirea credinței în Domnul Iisus Hristos (9).	¹ The nine Beatitudes were spoken by our Saviour Jesus Christ during His Sermon on the Mount (Matthew 5, 3–11). The Beatitudes are the nine ways or virtues through which one may attain eternal joy. In particular, we speak of (1) humility, (2) weeping remorse for sin, (3) gentleness, (4 and 8) the sense of righteousness and earning virtues, (5) charity, (6) purity of heart, (7) promoting peace, and (9) enduring persecutions, unkindness, and even death as we acknowledge our faith in Christ.

VOHODUL MIC	THE SMALL ENTRANCE

¹ Înălțând Sf. Evanghelie și rostind aceste cuvinte preotul vrea să spună credincioșilor: Sf. Evanghelie îl reprezintă pe Hristos, adevărata înțelepciunea dumnezeiască (I Cor. 1, 24) din care motiv ea trebuie ascultată cu respect, stând drepți, în picioare.	¹ As he raises the Gospel and says these words, the priest conveys to the devout the message: The Holy Gospels represent Christ, the true divine wisdom (I Cor. 1, 24), which is why the reading should be treated with respect and standing up straight.
VENIȚI SĂ NE ÎNCHINĂM¹	COME LET US WORSHIP¹
¹ Cântarea Veniți să ne închinăm cuprinde un stih care are două variante: a) Cel ce ai înviat din morți—care se cântă numai duminica, ziua învierii Domnului Hristos; b) Cel ce ești minunat întru sfinți—care se cântă în cursul săptămânii, la sărbătorile sfinților. Prin cântarea: «Veniți să ne închinam...» suntem îndemnați să ne închinăm și să cădem înaintea lui Hristos, care este prezent prin Sf. Evanghelie, înăltată de preot și asezetă apoi pe Sf. Masă.	¹ The hymn Come let us worship includes a line which can be either of these two variants: a) risen from the dead—which is only sung on Sundays, i.e. the day that the Lord Christ has resurrected; b) glorious amongst the Saints—which is sung in the other days of the week, which are dedicated to the Saints. The hymn «Come let us worship» urges us to worship Christ and bow before Him, as He is present amongst us by means of the Book of the Holy Gospels, which the priest raises high and then sets upon the Altar Table.

¹ Această cântare desemnată cu termenul liturgic de Trisaghion, a fost introdusă în rânduiala Sf. Liturghii în secolul al V-lea, în timpul împăratului Teodosie al II-lea (408–450). Cuvintele Sfinte Dumnezeule se referă la Dumnezeu-Tatăl ca izvor al dumnezeirii; Sfinte tare ne înfățișează pe Dumnezeu-Fiul Care este puterea lui Dumnezeu; Sfinte fără de moarte se raportează la Dumnezeu-Duhul Sfănt Care dă viață; miluiește-ne pe noi ne adeveresc unitatea Sfintei Treimi.	¹ This hymn is usually denoted by the liturgic notion of Trisagion. It was introduced in the celebration of the Liturgy in the Vth century, during the time of Emperor Teodosie the IInd (408–450). The words: Holy God refer to God the Father as the source of Godliness; Holy Mighty refer to God the Son, Who is the power of God the Father; Holy Immortal refers to God the Holy Spirit, Who gives life; have mercy on us confirm the unity of the Holy Trinity.

HERUVICUL¹	THE CHERUBIC HYMN¹
¹ Heruvicul a fost introdus în slujba Sfintei Liturghii în timpul împăratului Justin I (518–527). Acesta este un imn în care credincioșii sunt asemănați cu îngerii din cer care aduc Sf. Treimi cântare doxologică (de slavă); el cuprinde, de asemenea, îndemnul la o mai profundă spiritualizare prin desprinderea de orice grijă legată de traiul lumesc, material.	¹ The Cherubic Hymn was introduced into the celebration of the Liturghy during the time of Emperor Justin the First (518–527). In this hymn, the devout are compared to the angels in Heaven, which praise the Holy Trinity in doxologic (worshipful) hymns. It also urges those who hear it towards a deeper spiritual living by renouncing all kinds of worries that are tied to the material, worldly life.

¹ Crezul sau Simbolul de credință niceo-constantinopolitan—cea mai concentrată expresie a credinței creștine—cuprinde douăsprezece articole; primele opt au fost formulate la Sinodul I ecumenic (Niceea, 325) și definesc credința în Dumnezeu-Tatăl și Dumnezeu-Fiul, iar ultime patru la Sinodul II ecumenic (Constantinopol, 381) și formulează credința în Dumnezeu-Sfântul Duh, în Biserică, în Botez, în învierea obștească și în viața veșnică de după Judecată. Crezul a fost introdus în slujba Sfintei Liturghii în anul 567, de către împaratul Justinian II (565–578).	¹ The Creed or the Nicaean-Constantinoplitean Symbol of the faith—the most dense expression of the Christian faith–contains 12 articles; the first 8 were formulated by the first ecumenical Synod (Nicaea, 325) and define faith in God the Father and God the Son, and the last 4 were formulated at the second ecumneical Synod (Constantinople, 381) and define faith in God the Holy Spirit, the Church, Baptism, the resurrection of all the dead, and in eternal life after Judgment Day. Partea de început, Cuvine-se cu adevărat..., este de origine îngerească, fiind descoperită unui călugăr atonit (sec.
